Williams' statement on pay raises for state law enforcement officers
AUSTIN -- State Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, issued the following statement regarding a proposed pay increase for state law enforcement officers:
"I have supported pay raises for all our state employees, especially for the Department of Public Safety. It has become increasingly difficult for the Department to fill recruiting classes in the face of pay disparities between the DPS and city police departments."
"This elite group has taken on homeland security responsibilities in a post 9/11 America and is deserving of the pay increase called for by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst."
First elected in 1996 to the Texas House of Representatives, Tommy Williams was later elected to the Senate in 2002 and re-elected in 2004. He represents Senate District 4 that includes all or portions of Montgomery, Harris, Liberty, Chambers, Jefferson and Orange counties.
