State Sen. Tommy Williams takes the oath of office
Budget, school finance top the agenda for the 79th session
Austin - State Sen. Tommy Williams, R- The Woodlands, officially took the oath of office shortly after noon Tuesday to serve as the elected official for Senate District 4.
"I am honored to continue to serve the people of Southeast Texas," Williams said. "Taking the oath of office, vowing to uphold the state's Constitution, is very serious because it confirms the trust Texans place in the hands of their elected officials."
Williams said he is eager to tackle the many challenges facing the state in the 79th legislative session.
"As we work on the budget and school finance reform, two priorities of mine will be pay raises for state troopers and teachers," Williams said. "I'm also looking forward to reining in the runaway tuition increases at some of our public universities."
First elected in 1996 to the Texas House of Representatives, Williams was later elected to the Senate in 2002 and re-elected in 2004. He represents all or portions of Montgomery, Harris, Liberty, Chambers, Jefferson and Orange counties.
