Senator West's office to assist with Katrina victim support

DALLAS -- State Senator Royce West (D-Dallas) today announces that his Dallas District Office is taking phone calls to assist victims of the recent hurricane and floods that impacted Gulf Coast states including Louisiana and Mississippi.

"There are times when our daily routines must be set aside to answer a greater call," said Senator West. "This is one of those occasions. Many of these people have come to our doorstep with little more than the clothes on their backs. Their needs are many. "This tragic event that has affected hundreds of thousands of people is still unfolding. I am certain that the Dallas-metro area and the state of Texas will rise to the occasion to show our brothers and sisters from Louisiana and Mississippi that we are indeed our brother's keeper."

Persons in need of assistance or persons offering their assistance can call Senator West's office at 214-467-0123. The office began accepting calls this morning and is in the process of compiling a list of individuals, organizations and public entities that are providing victim relief services. Office hours are 8:30 - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. These services will continue indefinitely.
