Senator Glenn Hegar Joins Envision Central Texas

Congratulates Newly Appointed Chairman Jim Walker

Senator Glenn Hegar was recently elected to the Envision Central Texas Board. Envision Central Texas (ECT) is a planning organization that serves Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties. Senator Hegar represents 19 counties in the Texas Senate, including Bastrop and Caldwell.

"Central Texas has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade. With roughly 1,000 people a day moving to Texas, that growth will only continue. Envision Central Texas recognizes that careful planning is necessary to protect the high quality of life Central Texans enjoy. I am honored to contribute to ECT's efforts and look forward to playing a part in shaping Central Texas' future," said Senator Hegar.

Envision Central Texas is a 67 member organization that works to provide a unified vision of growth management strategies as the region's current population of 1.4 million swells to 2.5 million within the next 20 to 40 years. ECT focuses on the area's economic vitality, social equity, preservation and enhancement of natural resources, and the overall quality of life in the region. The vision of ECT, which includes compact walkable communities, multiple choices in transportation and housing, abundant open spaces and recreation opportunities, a strong emphasis on social equity, and preservation of the region's unique character and history, was formed with input from thousands of Central Texas residents. Additional information about ECT is available on their website (

The Envision Central Texas (ECT) Board of Directors recently announced that Jim Walker has been selected as its new chairman. Jim Walker has served on ECT's Executive Committee and Board of Directors since its inception in 2001, and offers a wealth of experience in community planning. Mr. Walker currently serves the Mueller Neighborhood Coalition, and as the executive director of the Central Texas Sustainability Indicators Project.

"Jim Walker is an expert in regional planning and long term community strategizing. His leadership will be an asset to ECT and to Central Texas. I look forward to working with him as we search for solutions to the challenges that the region's tremendous growth will demand," said Senator Hegar.

Senator Hegar is currently serving his first term in the Texas Senate after serving two terms in the House of Representatives. He is a 6th generation Texan, and earns a living farming rice and corn on land that has been in his family since the mid 1800s. The Hegars reside in Katy, Texas.
