Senator Ellis, Comptroller Susan Combs and Texas Retailers Association to announce new sales tax holiday expansion plans
Senator Ellis will be joined by Comptroller Susan Combs and the Texas Retailers Association for a press conference on Thursday, August 23, 2007 to announce legislation calling for a sales tax holiday expansion. The proposal will raise price of items that are tax free from $100 to $150 and include all school supplies.
Senator Ellis authored the original back to school sales tax holiday in 1999 and since that time the holiday has saved Texas taxpayers almost $300 million. The current back to school sales tax holiday is for three days in August and covers most clothing items under $100 and backpacks.
