Senator Ellis's Statement on the renewal of the Voting Rights Act
"I am appalled at members of the Texas congressional delegation who want to return to the days of discrimination by stopping the renewal of the Voting Rights Act. I am especially disturbed to hear they want to require literacy tests for potential voters. Literacy tests, just like the poll tax of the past, prevent U.S. citizens from voting. Our goal as elected officials should be to make it easier for all Americans to vote, not make it more difficult."
"Like we did in the redistricting battle, we will fight at every opportunity to champion the rights of American voters."
