CHECK PRESENTATION TO TEXAS GRANTS PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTING THE IMPACT OF SB 1227

(Houston, Texas) -- Sen. Rodney Ellis (Houston) will join the Texas Retailers Education Foundation on Thursday, June 22, 2006 for a check presentation of their gift of $250,000 to the College for All Texans Foundation for the benefit of the TEXAS Grant Program. Private donations to the program were made possible by passage of Senate Bill 1227 by Senator Shapiro and Representative Morrison in the 79th Legislature.

In 1999, Senator Ellis authored the TEXAS Grants Program which has provided free in-state college tuition to over 137,000 students and continues to contribute to a more skilled and competitive Texas workforce.
