Senator Rodney Ellis Statement on Retirement of Senator Gonzalo Barrientos

(Austin)// -- Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) today released the following statement regarding Senator Gonzalo Barrientos' decision to retire from the Texas Senate:

"I am saddened by my good friend Gonzalo Barrientos’ decision to not return to the Texas Senate. He is a true hero of the Senate and the people of Texas will miss his strong voice and unwavering dedication. The Senate just won’t be the same without him.

"Gonzalo Barrientos is a good man who has done great things for Texas. He is a dedicated public servant who for over three decades has fought to ensure that all Texans have the opportunity to achieve their American dream. A leader on issues, like education, equality, health care, the environment and economic empowerment, no one worked harder for their constituents or with more passion than Gonzalo Barrientos.

"The Texas Senate will miss his strength and his leadership, but I hope my good friend enjoys his retirement. After over three decades fighting for others, he has earned a little time off."
