Ellis, Hochberg to Hold Press Conference on Reducing Costs on Prescription Drugs
Legislation will allow Texans to purchase less expensive Canadian Drugs via Internet

(Austin)// -- Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) and Representative Scott Hochberg (D-Houston) will hold a press conference to discuss their legislation to let Texans import less expensive prescription drugs from Canada, on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. in the Lieutenant Governor's Press Room.

The legislation, HB 173, would allow Texans to purchase less expensive prescription drugs from Canadian pharmacies via the Internet. Under the bills, the Texas Department of Pharmacy would license approved Canadian pharmacies to sell and ship prescription drugs directly to Texans. Senator Ellis will file companion legislation in the Senate on Wednesday.

The legislation is modeled after successful programs in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Illinois, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont also have programs to help residents obtain less expensive prescription drugs from Canada.
