Consumer Advocates and Legislators to Hold Press Conference to Respond to Texas Department of Insurance Credit Scoring Study

(Austin)// -- Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston), State Representatives Garnet Coleman (D-Houston), Charlie Geren (R- River Oaks), Scott Hochberg (D-Houston), and Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) will join insurance consumer groups and other consumer advocates in a press conference on Monday, January 10, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Senate Press Room, 2E.9, to discuss the recent Texas Department of Insurance Study on the use of credit scoring in insurance rates.

The groups will call for an end to the use of credit scoring as factor in determining insurance rates due to the discriminatory impact the use of credit scores has against minority and working class Texans.

Other groups that will be in attendance at the press conference include Texas Watch, Common Cause, NAACP, LULAC, and MALDEF
