Houston Ministers Against Crime to hold Press Conference on Josiah Sutton case

Austin, TX- Representative Senfronia Thompson (Houston) and the Houston Ministers Against Crime will hold a press conference on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. to speak out on the Josiah Sutton case and his efforts to receive a pardon for innocence from the Governor. Representative Thompson and the ministers will question why the Board of Pardons and Paroles has refused to grant a pardon for innocence for Josiah Sutton after DNA tests have proven his innocence.

Josiah Sutton was released from prison over 4 years ago after DNA test proved that he did not commit the rape for which he was convicted. Since that time Josiah has been caught in the bureaucracy within the Board of Pardons and Paroles. Pending litigation in Josiah's case have made it impossible for Josiah and his lawyer to secure letters from the presiding judge and District Attorney in order to comply with rules established by the Board of Pardons and Paroles.

The ministers will hold a breakfast at 9:00 a.m. before the press conference to discuss Josiah's case.
