Statement on Revenue Estimates

"Comptroller Rylander has a very difficult job. She has warned us that, while we are not in danger of slipping into recession, the economy is slowing and that we should not expect an early Christmas present. That puts even more pressure on all of us to make the right choices on the budget.

"As author of the legislation Comptroller Rylander has mentioned, I share her concern that the state budget may be at risk if we do not expeditiously resolve these questions of fiscal policy. That said, we have to craft a budget based on the numbers we know today, not what could be available a month from now."

"We hope that the Comptroller recognizes the steps we are taking to ensure Texas maintains a sound fiscal foundation and continues to work with us on these matters important to all Texans."
