(Austin)// "I am extremely pleased by Governor Perry's appointment of Wallace Jefferson to the Texas Supreme Court. I know that Mr. Jefferson is extremely qualified and ready for the rigors of the job.

"Mr. Jefferson's appointment reflects the changing face of Texas and is a significant step forward for African Americans in our state. At the dawn of the 21st Century, Mr. Jefferson joins Michael Williams as the only African Americans to serve in a statewide post. I think that says something about both our past and our future.

"Governor Perry deserves congratulations for his efforts to seek out and find qualified individuals to lead our state into the next century. I appreciate and encourage his continuing efforts to make Texas' government more reflective of its population."
